Relative to groundwater elsewhere in New Mexico the “Upper Rio Grande”, and Rios Chama and Gallina Watersheds, clearly recharge at high altitudes.

High altitude runoff and groundwater recharge is essential for supplementing water supplies throughout the rest of the state and beyond.

Without such reserves and flows, waters would stagnate and evaporate, become too salty for drinking water for people and livestock, and for irrigation downstream.

Surface and groundwater are precious resources of Rio Arriba County that should not be squandered friviously.
