Notes:

A striking feature of the Rio Gallina and Rio Chama Watersheds is the surrounding mountains that can exceed 11,000 feet in height.

In the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the east, near Taos, elevations of its mountains even exceed 12,000 feet.

High altitudes, precipitation, and runoff potentials recharge the groundwater to elevations in excess of 10,000 feet, resulting in both, good quality and flow in the groundwaters of the Rio Chama Watershed.

The western edge of the Upper Rio Grande Rio Chama Watershed is the Continental Divide (illustrated).
