A widely referenced San Juan Basin cross-section has little bearing on the safety of fracking remaining surface Mancos Shale in the Rios Gallina & Chama Watersheds.
Much of the San Juan Basin's oil- and gas-producing strata above the Mancos Shale was stripped away in the Rios Gallina and Chama Watersheds by repeated glaciation.
Thus, dramatic differences exist between the San Juan Basin, with its bowl-shaped retention of water, and the glacial flume-like drainage east of the Continental Divide.
Dark arrows illustrate hydrologic communication between and along specific San Juan Basin strata and formations.
